What is APANA?

APANA stands for Asian Pacific American Network in Agriculture, a department-wide employee organization in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Organized in 1989, APANA serves as a conduit through which issues of common interests and concerns of the members are addressed.  APANA membership is open to all USDA employees.

On a regular basis, APANA

  • Holds meetings featuring well-known subject matter expert(s) as speaker(s),
  • Plans and organizes activities, including the commemoration of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month during May of each year, and
  • Provides networking and outreach opportunities to its membership and individuals outside the USDA
APANA's objectives are to:
  • Promote representation of Asian Pacific American employees in USDA services and programs.
  • Facilitate career employment and advancement of Asian Pacific Americans within USDA.
  • Expose and reduce racism, sexism and other barriers to fair employment in USDA.
  • Provide resources and sponsor activities to help Asian Pacific American employees in Agriculture acquire skills and knowledge for career development.
  • Cooperate with other USDA employee organizations with similar objectives.
